If you can imagine it, you and engineer it!

If you can imagine it, you and engineer it!

I like to call myself an imagineer…..

Why you may ask and what is an Imagineer? Imagineering is letting your imagination soar, and then engineering it down to earth.

We all hold the ability to be Imagineers, to let our imagination soar – the magnetism lies in the ability to take that dream and to engineer it back to reality.

Too often we are our biggest obstacle and limitation. We tend to blame others, life and our circumstances, yet, we are the inventors of our own destiny.

Tips to enhance in on your Imagineering skills:

  1. Recognise your dream. Too often we are so caught up in the hustle of life that we do not see our dreams.
  2. Acknowledge your dream by writing it down. Have a journal or notebook where you can write it down. It is always good to record your dream in blue ink. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect.
  3. Do some reflection – make sure that the dream is really yours and not the illusion of what someone else might envision for you.
  4. What is the intent of the dream? Write it down
Why are people sad? That’s simple. They are the prisoners of their own personal history. Everyone believes that the aim in life is to follow a plan. They never ask if that plan is theirs or if it was created by another person. They accumulate experiences, memories, things and other people’s ideas, and it is more than they can cope with. And that is why they forget their dreams.” Paulo Coelho
  5. What other engineers can you surround yourself with? Like-minded people have a positive influence on each other. You can talk to them about your dream, the intent, the progress and the obstacles.
  6. Identify the potential obstacles. Write them down. Ask yourself if these are real obstacles or if you placed them there. Sometimes we are our own biggest obstacle. To change your life you must make a choice to take responsibility for your attitude. Not all obstacles should be seen as undesirable, they are there to remind you of your dream, to show you the way and to keep you dedicated.
  7. Be resilient! Characteristics of resilient people:
    – A staunch acceptance of reality.
    – A deep belief that life is meaningful
    – An uncanny ability to improvise
  8. Appreciate the power of choice!
    – Choosing to live your life by your own choice is the greatest freedom.
    – Make changes, not excuses. When you encounter an obstacle, see it for what it is, and change direction. Never lose focus of the dream.
    – Choose to express gratitude. Show gratitude to the engineers that you surround yourself with.
    – Choose to listen to your inner voice, not the random opinion of others.
We experience a dream as real because it is real…the miracle is how, without any help from the sense organs, the brain replicates in the dream all the sensory information that creates the world we live in when we are awake. – William Dement a pioneering sleep researcher, focusing on dreams and the brain.
